Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)
05/01/1991 - "
To determine the effects of age, sex, race, and family history of hypertension on cellular cation transport, we measured specific tritiated-ouabain binding (sodium/potassium pump number), and sodium/potassium pump-mediated rubidium-86 uptake in blood lymphocytes from 105 healthy normotensive adults, comprising 23 Chinese and 19 Indian subjects who had first-degree relatives with cryptogenic hypertension, and 40 Chinese and 23 Indian matched subjects without such history.

08/31/1990 - "
This mutation alters the hydropathy profile of a region in proximity to T3(Na), the trypsin-sensitive site that is only detected in the presence of Na+. This mutation causes a decrease in the rubidium-86 influx of S allele-specific sodium pumps, thus marking a domain in the Na+,K(+)-ATPase alpha subunit important for K+ transport, and supporting the hypothesis of a putative role of these pumps in hypertension.

Essential Hypertension
04/11/1981 - "
Cation transport across the red-cell membrane was studied in subjects with essential hypertension and their relatives using rubidium-86 as an analogue of potassium.
"
06/14/1986 - "
To test whether leucocyte sodium pumps function abnormally in patients with essential hypertension specific tritium-ouabain binding (number of pumps) and ouabain sensitive uptake of rubidium-86 (86Rb+) (transport activity) were measured in mononuclear leucocytes from 37 untreated hypertensive patients and 85 normotensive subjects.

Neoplasms (Cancer)
01/01/1981 - "
The red blood cell (RBC) uptake of rubidium-86 (Rb-86), a sensitive in vitro test of RBC membrane transport, was measured in 22 controls, 8 patients with benign breast lesions, and 30 stage I/II, 13 stage III/IV untreated breast cancers.
