Abstract | BACKGROUND: METHODS: Serum and tissue samples for the analysis of SCCA1, SCCA2, and SCC antigen were taken from 18 patients with sinonasal inverted papilloma and 23 cases with sinonasal SCC. The SCCA1, SCCA2, and SCC antigen levels were determined. RESULTS: The serum SCCA1 concentration was significantly higher in the inverted papilloma group than in the SCC group, whereas the serum SCCA2 level was significantly higher in the SCC group than in the inverted papilloma group. CONCLUSION: Patients with sinonasal inverted papilloma predominantly express SCCA1 protein, whereas those with SCC predominantly express SCCA2. This suggests that combined measurements of both serum SCCA1 and SCCA2 concentrations can be very useful for distinguishing sinonasal inverted papilloma from SCC.
