Neurosteroids

Endogenous compounds or drugs that affect neuronal excitability through modulation of specific ionotropic receptors (e.g., GABA-A RECEPTORS). Endogenous neurosteroids are steroid hormones de novo synthesized by neurons and glial cells from steroid metabolite precursors (e.g., PREGNENOLONE).
