Abstract | OBJECTIVE: To analyse the causes, clinical manifestation, management and prevention of gastroesophageal reflex and aspiration (GER-A) in the infants delivered by cesarean section. METHOD: The clinical data of 6 infants with asphyxia resulted from GER-A, delivered by elective cesarean section were retrospectively analysed. RESULTS: CONCLUSIONS: The occurrence of this complication was probably related to the mode of delivery by cesarean section, the underdevelopment of effective barrier for preventing GER-A at very early stage and the inadequate management of the newborn. It is suggested that the prevention and proper treatment of GER-A was important in lowering neonatal morbidity and mortality.
